Club Review – The Dawg House, Mojácar, Spain

Mojácar in Almeria is one of those special places which stays with you a long time after you leave. With 17 kms of beach, also called Ibiza of the south because of its buzzing night life at the beach bars that roll out directly onto the golden sands, a charming village with a hippy spirit of winding, narrow Andalusian stye streets tucked away on the hillside, Mojácar is a must-see summer destination for the discerning tourist.

Especially so, when you can get an invite to The Dawg House, undoubtedly the best private cannabis club in town with its cool, friendly, chilled-out feeling.

Brett, Betsy at The Dawg House (and a few other guys we didn’t get to meet) have poured a lot of love into this place and, in addition, have a passion for stocking some of the best grass selection we’ve seen in a while outside the big cities of Barcelona and Madrid. Coffee Shops in Barcelona: How to Get Membership 7 things to do while you’re stoned in Madrid The dispensary is a chic shade of black and is discreetly placed to the rear of the club, behind the bar. With a menu of more than 20 varieties of grass, (we really liked the Rossa Corsa and the Californian black cherry), you’ll surely be there for a while deciding which to go for. These guys know their stuff and, as we said, are devoted to helping you discover their strains. If you’re into hash, you’ve got a great choice too, including Spur Bubba, Lemon Mintz and loads more. They’ve got edibles, and Brett’s special BHO (distilled twice), and they’ll soon be stocking THC extracts.

For those spending a bit more time in the area and are interested in cultivating, they’ve got starter kits and some great advice to offer.

The club’s raison d’être is to provide a safe environment with excellent products where people can come and relax and enjoy themselves.

It certainly gets the Marijuana Games team’s approval!

It is located on the front, south-side, opposite one of the most famous Mojácar hippy beach bars. You’ll find the entrance through a spacious terrace and, once inside, you’ll be struck by how light and airy it all is. Greenery abounds, artfully cascading over some really cool hanging cocoon rattan chairs where you’ll want to hang out for a really long time. There’s a pool table, some other tables to sit and talk with friends, reminiscent of a canna-bistro diner all set out with hookah pipes. There’s a bar for coffees, cokes and snacks if you get the munchies and, if you fancy doing a spot of dj-ing, just ask and they’ll set you up in the dj booth or you might be lucky enough to be there on one of the nights when one of the local, talented rappers takes the stage.

If you can get the energy up to leave the club, and it’s difficult (!), do make sure to take in the sights of Mojácar. Firstly, there’s that long, long sandy sbeach stretching for as far as the eye can see, backed up by stunning mountains. Then, 170 metres above sea level, the attractive white hillside village with its narrow streets and Andalusian style houses covered in flower-filled pots is definitely worth a visit. During high season, there are a number of tourists but, by evening, the crowds disperse and you’ll find it fairly quiet if you take in the panoramic views from Plaza Nueva, visit the famous Moorish Mora fountain, and the column-lined Plaza del Parterre with its tapas bars.

Back to Mojácar……If you’re wondering what that primitive symbol you see everywhere in Mojácar is, it’s from an ancient cave painting found nearby and is thought to be a pre-historic god holding a rainbow and during centuries has been attached to house facades and doorways as a sign of good luck.

Marvellous Mojácar – we sure feel lucky to have met Brett and his team in the amazing Dawg House!! Open 7 days a week, 11am-11pm.
