Disturbing news about one of the best weed scenes in Spain has reached us at Marijuana Games. In December 2023, the Barcelona Council announced it would begin a campaign of inspections of private Barcelona cannabis clubs. Their intentions were made clear by one of the councillors, Albert Betlle, who declared that, if it were up to him, all private cannabis associations would be closed.
This sounds pretty much like he’s declared war on the amazing Barcelona weed scene.
In addition, he stated that the council would double down on inspection efforts in order to find reasons to sanction, fine, and eventually close all Barcelona cannabis social clubs and associations. A few days later, this proposal was voted on and the directive was passed by various political parties within the council.
It’s important to note that this is in contradiction to the former council in power . They issued the cannabis associations with licences to operate. This is why 180 cannabis clubs are preparing to sue the council for damages.
However, if you are a visitor to Barcelona wanting to experience the great weed scene in Barcelona, or have enjoyed clubs in the past, don’t worry yet. One thing we would add, though, is that given the threat to the clubs in Barcelona at the moment by the council, please be cooperative and responsible when visiting the clubs. Now ,more than ever, it is absolutely necessary that you follow all the club rules with regards to consumption.
It is, in the end, up to cannabis consumers to show that cannabis is a responsible lifestyle choice.
