Music, makes me feel good……

Over at the Marijuana Games offices we’re always accompanied by music.  That’s how we like our favorite cannabis social clubs in Madrid, Barcelona, Marbella and Mojácar too.

So, chilling out the other day with our strain of the month, we got to musing our favorite songs and even got introduced to some we didn’t even know were about weed. Turns out, fellow club member J is a bit of an expert on all this – so here goes with our take on his punditry.

But before we get there, just another plug for those kind of best days to be had toking and chatting with great company in a safe, relaxed environment:  cannabis social clubs in Spain.

We can help sponsor your membership to some of the best private clubs where you’ll be able to consume cannabis products (still classified as a illicit substance in Spain – despite the call for new regulation), and be protected by Spain’s thorough privacy laws.

J started off with something we all know – jazz musicians of the early 20th century were big users.  There are plenty of old tracks of interest to listen to – not our scene, but interesting history. It’s often posited that improvisation, that special ingredient that makes things flow between musicians on stage is primarily due to the short-term memory effect that happens with cannabis. Experienced users – and you may well identify here if you think of long, meandering conversations you have with fellow consumers – are adept at counteracting the short-term forgetfulness by blurring the lines of limitation, giving in to creative impulses. Or, in other words, improvisation comes to the fore.

Improvisation which is also a feature of many other genres, such as heavy metal.  J is  a Sabbath fan, and told us that Sabbath’s guitarist Tony Iommi – and many of us will recognize this – was coughing away, in agonized bliss after a particularly large toke.  He recorded and tape-looped his cough which segues into the song Sweet Leaf’s iconic sludgy riff (a riff that, it should be noted, later popped up everywhere from the Beastie Boys’ “Rhymin’ and Stealin'”  to the Red Hot Chili Peppers “Give it Away”  Which all leads to another conversation about our sweetest leaves -“I love you sweet leaf though you can’t hear” – but that’s another post for another day.

H is our sometimes reggae dubstep fan, but rather than tell us about the present scene (great examples of which can be found at the Spannabis fair in Barcelona – updates for 2023 upcoming), she reminded us of the great scandal caused by the UK kiddie group Musical Youth who had to repeatedly explain in interviews that their #1 chart toppping song “Pass the Dutchie” was in fact nothing to do with weed and that they had re-recorded Mighty Diamonds’ “Pass the Kouchie”, the latter being Jamaican slang for a pot in which marijuana is kept and Musical Youth’s Dutchie, a dutch cooking pot. “How does it feel when you got no herb?” (Answer: that never happens if you live in California with all those great dispensaries – nor in Spain, if you join a cannabis social club!)

Still, being with a musician into weed can have its pros and cons. Like it’s hard work, and like the money’s so good.  We’re talking here about Snoop Doggy Dogg who has his own salaried blunt maker, who claims to have rolled more that 500,000 joints for him and who earns somewhere in the region of 60,000USD – and who gets to hang around him and his music. (FYI: Other great weed jobs.)

“Rollin’ down the street smokin’ indo

Sipping on gin and juice

Laid back……..”

Well, if you’re into pre-rolls, we can assure you that all the private social cannabis clubs we go to have those available for if you’ve got no time on your hands or are just not that adept at rolling.  Hey, it happens! Which brings us to Justin Bieber and “Peaches”, the song, and his very own brand of pre-rolls launched in 2021 in California.

That brings us onto peaches and cream, that slightly fruity taste with a spicy underscore.  Mmm, haven’t had that in a while. Got to get you into my life, maybe….. (so sang the Beatles in 1966)

I was alone, I took a ride

I didn’t know what I would find there

Another road where maybe I

Could see another kind of mind there……
